No warning needed!

Just when you thought you might escape life without drinking fruity ash tray goodness... it's Liquid Smoking, a cigarette alternative in a can!

Smokers left craving nicotine in pubs and restaurants were today promised relief in the form of a soft drink claimed to recreate the sensation of smoking a cigarette.

Liquid Smoking -- which manufacturers hope will go on sale in the UK in December -- contains no nicotine but relies instead on a South African herbal extract said to enable people to "drink the smoking feeling".

The drink has a "slight energising effect, followed by a euphoric sense of calming and relaxation, like the satisfaction of your cigarette," its manufacturer, the United Drinks and Beauty Corporation, claims.

But... if it has no nicotine, just what the hell kind of fruity madness would we be drinking?

[United Drinks and Beauty Corporation] says [the beverage] does not contain the highly addictive drug nicotine, but a potent mix of roots from South African plants, which has been used since the 14th century by bushmen.

The bushmen would chew the concoction of leaves to achieve a high, but the producers of Liquid Smoking distilled the mix into an oil for their drink.

Of course, none of the articles I dug up in my (admittedly minimal ten minutes worth of) research could name this "potent mix of roots," which likely means it is a potent mix of niacin and guarana, but hey, if you really, really, really need a smoke in a pub, I guess this might do the trick.

Anyone got the real scoop on this fruity, slightly "energising" goop?
