Many bands claim to be psychedelic rock, but Mastodon actually lobbies for the title. From an article in the April 16, 2009, issue of Rolling Stone:
The Mastodon brain trust of Hinds and Dailor get their weird lyrical ideas the old fashioned way: "It comes from us doing too much acid," Hinds says. "Acid is the best drug in the world. It did the most amazing things for my creative psyche, and it still is doing things for me."
Seeking refuge from an operatically awful childhood, drummer-lyricist Dailor tripped almost nonstop from the age of 14 until his early 20s. "I went to high school on acid," he recalls. "Droppers filled with liquid acid on my tongue and just going for it, fully exiting what I consider to be an earthly plane. And when the acid wore off, I had a connection with that kind of music, with Frank Zappa and Yes and King Crimson."
Mastodon has a new album out, 'Crack the Skye', but I'm not too impressed with their first single, so instead I'll feed you the crazy Blood and Thunder video from the album 'Leviathan'. Of course, if you're not a fan of metal or death metal or anything remotely metal-ish, you can just skip it.
Mastodon are the "shamans" of "I". DMT is an entheogen. The word entheogen literally translates to "god within". I AM god. So are you, and some of the others who commented. Take it easy

i must say i love music that is inspired by the use of psychoactive drugs. i also have to say that acid is probably the best drug out there, it just opens so many new things up for the mind. tool, mastodon, and pink floyd are my favorite bands to listen to when im fucked up.

... i must say, Dmt.. Produced from your Pineal gland or 3rd eye. Which induces dreams. Is the truly most potent hallucinogenic drug known to man. It can be taken by swallowing or smoking, An has the tendency to make you loose your bowls.. get it.. Rossetta Stoned lyrics, TOOL, Song starts out 10-2 am, x, yogi DMT. and then proceeds to explane a trip where he meets extra terrestrials who explain the secrets of the universe. Also other people who have done it have had the same experiences like nostradamus (Bill hicks, is a popular example) and many prophets from back in the day. Not as much from DMT but hallucinogenics, that start to trigger and open your third eye. which scientists theory is it makes visions into alter dimensions possible. Mastodon and TOOL speak of a lot of the same Quantum Physics and other theory's in there music. In fact TOOL doesnt say too much 'straight up' besides whats been proven scientifically or theorys that makes sense if you look at them thru quantum physics. But no you wouldn't hear that would you. No one takes the time to listen to music anymore... i know some of you may understand too a point. and even less may get what i or they are talking about. and its what makes it soo happy to understand musical artists. alot of them talk about physics, and only a few of us know

Actually "God" I wasnt comparing those two bands, i was simply stating a fact, being as that James was talking about psychedelic "metalish" music. And by the way, mushrooms are the best drug in the world........IMO

Mushrooms are the most answering drugs my friends. Through all psychedelic drugs hold a exciting creativity that "should" be the way the world is run. We should make things in this world happier. and we should all walk around with a smile on our faces!

except zappa was really anti-drugs...and i always felt his music was weird, but without any psychedelicism. when people describe his music as psychedelic, i just get confused. not to say that people couldn't enjoy his music on psychedelics, but i do not think i would.
and also--the mind is the best drug in the world. acid can be pretty amazing under the right circumstances though. and pretty hellish under the wrong ones.

Ayahuasca is possible. I made my own decoction and put it in gel caps. I had some good mental imagery but I didn't have a full blown experience.
