Video: California Turns to Medical Marijuana to Fix Economic Woes

With the California economy in shambles the state is increasingly relying on the financial boost they get from medical marijuana. According to some estimates, California receives millions of dollars in taxes from medical marijuana growers and buyers. For their part marijuana growers are welcoming the state's acceptance of their legal businesses, though they still live in fear of prosecution by the federal government.

Did the original broadcast have the ambient soundtrack in the background? Pretty funny.

Only through outright legalization. Decriminalization still leaves the black market intact.

If anything, you would be able to write off medical expenses on your immoral, unethical, bullshit income tax forms. But that's another topic. I must digress. Dreamdust is correct. The only way for a true economic windfall is through outright decriminalization. Most of the benefit won't even come through recreational use. The true economic power of the plant lies in its industrial applications.

Very inaccurate as usual by Fox News.

First, if it's "medical" then it should be tax-exempt. Period.
Second, nobody has published ANY numbers on taxes paid by MMJ clubs. So essentially it's everyone's best guess, which means absolutely nothing. "According to some estimates" is completely made-up bullshit.

Besides that millions in taxes would barely make a dent in the tax shortfall...
