If you have ordered 2C-B-fly from Haupt-RC, then your life may be in danger

As yet this doesn't seem to have been picked up by any media outlets...

Haupt-RC has added 2C-B-FLY as a new product to its assortment on Monday September 28th and the operator of the company died from consuming it on Saturday October 3rd. Between those dates Haupt-RC has sent out an unknown number of orders around the world.

Some of Haupt-RC's customers have been warned and thereby may have been saved from fatal ingestion. Unfortunately others have not been reached in time and have been hospitalised and died.

Unconfirmed sources have stated that this 2C-B-FLY was sourced from a Chinese producer. This Chinese producer may be selling to other Research Chemical vendors.

Yeah, this is devastating. I forgot how dangerous the RC market can be

Though I'd love to see LSD legalized, I think Prattner is jumping to a faulty conclusion. First, RCs are hardly "legal" themselves according to the analog act (depending upon where you reside, of course.) Second, variety is simply the spice of life and I don't think that making one psychedelic legal would extinguish interest in novel materials; these chemicals each have their own unique signatures and specific efficacies, and are not generically substitutable for one another. If LSD was still as inexpensive and readily available as it used to be, there would be less market for these riskier materials, that is true - but some would still be motivated to push the envelope of novelty, you can count on that.

I do agree about the impact of the drug war on these sorts of tragic episodes, however. Without prohibition, RC vendors wouldn't be stuck using fly-by-night Chinese chemical companies whose industry is well known for cutting corners and whose quality control is suspect at best. There would also be less reason to avoid getting independent 3rd party analyses of materials received from such questionable companies.

prattner... these drugs were legal in China. They were made in a legal factory just like Heroin in 1910 or Cocaine in 1920... The fact is this is something which could have happened during legalization.

Although to be fair, maybe a long period of legalization would be conducive to developing preventative measures for these events.

More victims of the drug war. If drugs were legal and distributed in professionally measured doses, this sort of thing would not happen.

And if LSD were legal, people would not bother with these other, more dubious chemicals.

Erowid is speculating that the drug might have actually been Bromo-Dragonfly, not 2C-B-FLY.

The death occurred at a dose of (the unknown substance) 9 mg, which is in the typical range range of dosages for 2C-B-FLY.

Bromo-Dragonfly, however, has a reported "typical" dose under a milligram. So if in fact the unknown substance were Bromo-Dragonfly, then the death occurred after a 10-times "typical" dose. This would mean the "therapeutic index" of Bromo-Dragonfly may less than 10. That's not a lot of room for error.
