Infographic: Projected pot tax revenues

This graphic illustrates the popularity of marijuana consumption, the federal tax dollars spent to keep marijuana illegal, and the possible tax revenues that could be generated if marijuana production were legalized and taxed like any other agricultural product.

Thanks Psilo!

Texas is right next to the border, why wouldn't more people smoke there? And if you want prostitution so much just go to Vegas fool.
megan. : 2011-03-24 16:38:02
i dont think texas smokes that much pot. everything ive heard about texas is conservative. i live in minnesota, and almost everyone i know smokes pot or have tried it, especially in the cities. i dont know how accurate that information is. maybe its based off of population and not by percentage of state?

no big deal i guess

jim . : 2010-08-27 22:04:41
I would rather have prostitution.

Hey "this is so wrong"
saying "i could care less" means you actually DO care so that means you are kind-of contradicting yourself I think you meant to say that I COULDN'T care less because that means its impossible to not care as much as you because you care so little..might be confusing but everybody catches the drift right?
yeah i know my grammar blows
oh and by the way "this is so wrong" reading a Wikipedia page with your thumb up your conservative ass doesn't count as research babes
with love,

"the government is far smarter than we *thing.*"

It's not a war on (some) drugs, it's a war on minorities to replace outlawed slave labor with prison labor. Read tinyurl.com/1mn

Now go get drunk on the legal drug, alcohol, and smoke yourself to cancer with the legal drug, tobacco. And go to the hospital to make yourself deaf with legal, ototoxic drugs.

Alex. : 2010-03-24 17:07:52
if marijuana was legal, everyone would be doing it all the fucking time, therefore makeing everyone stupid as shit. the government is far smarter than we thing. im perfectly happy with marijuana being illegal

fellow stoners,

we will have our day

bean. : 2010-01-26 11:08:38
this is fucking stupid, yes more than half the people in america smoke pot. and the stupid ones get arrested, and after probation they go back to it and become smarter hopefully.
is there a point trying to be made here?
also, i'm pretty sure every purchase of weed in PA is off the books cause we don't have data banks with out names in it like the 14 states with laws allowing medical marijuana.
This is so RIGHT. : 2010-01-24 23:56:59
@ this is so wrong: that's a terrible argument all around. How would you NOT care that your country is wasting billions of dollars on busting people for weed? The government may or may not spend that money anyways, but if they do it will be on something much more worthwhile than arresting people for doing what almost all of the nation habitually uses. It just doesn't make sense. And just because its legal doesn't mean the government would control all of it, think about alcohol. We are a capitalist nation, private companies would sell weed and you would always be able to find "pure" weed. Or its called grow your own. Retard.
dont worry. : 2010-01-22 14:49:10
Addiction, and Habit are completely different. A habitual user is someone that smoke on a regular basis. An addict is someone that needs the drug to feel alright.

I myself am a habitual smoker. I smoke multiple times daily, but can stop whenever I need. I commonly go a day or 2 without smoking if something comes up.

Please don't insult someone on wording, when you yourself, are an idiot.

Peace Sign. : 2010-01-20 13:00:43
To the person who decided that said "This is so wrong", you sir are an idiot. Does it make sense to spend money you work for to put people away who want to enjoy a naturally growing plant? Marijuana should absolutely be legal. For as many users of the plant, it would create an unbelievable amount of revenue. What makes tobacco or alcohol more containable and better for you? Do you hear of people getting into car wrecks because of weed? Do you see people going into the hospital because of weed poisoning? Yes, there's an argument about inhaling a burning plant, such as tobacco. But vaporizing it takes care of that completely, completely eliminating all of those other chemicals you ingest with cigarettes. Hell, for all you know, Marijuana could completely replace tobacco. Crimes don't come from smoking. Crimes come from smoking meth. Get with it, kid.
"This is so wrong" is so wrong.. : 2009-12-27 20:26:57
People can continue buying from who they buy from. It's not price of weed that is fueling this battle, it's the wrongful jail time. I enjoyed your speculations on where the money would be put to next, quite idiotic, yet you're missing the point. The government may always make mistakes with money, but at least none would continue going towards this. People who think like you ("They'll just probably do [fill in the blank] afterward so why even try!?") are not the people responsible for the progress made by society. You also said you don't care because "i won't see one cent of that money!" which is another great insight to your morals and why everything you write should be regarded as filth and idiocy.

Yes legalize and stop prosecuting responsible adults who would rather smoke a little natural herb rather than drink poison alcohol or smoke tobacco! OR take pills their body cannot tolerate!

Please join your local chapter of MPP or Norml

The potential tax revenue is mislabeled as from 'production' but at the bottom it says b'ased on state by state use'.... so it should read potential tax revenue from marijuana 'sales'

yep

a sandwich would be far more useful...petitions are for cavemen

in the 21st century petitions are just litter waiting to happen

this is so wrong. : 2009-11-17 20:42:56
this is so wrong in so many ways. another horrible attempt by a brainwashed pothead to try to make weed "legal". little do you know, the word "legal" has it's limitations as well. how far does the word legal go?? i couldnt help but notice that it says "density of habitual marijuana users". i find that pretty hilarious because marijuana isn't habit forming nor addictive. bad use of words perhaps? but after all, how much do you CARE that the u.s. is wasting money on busting marijuana users/possessors? i could care less actually because i won't see one cent of that money! the u.s. government will find something else to piss it away on anyway. that same money that was used to keep marijuana illegal will just be wasted on additive research to find out what they can mix our marijuana with in order to keep us addicted. currently, you can call up your normal supplier and buy a gram of PURE haze for $20... but if the gov "legalizes", then you will be going into your nearest deli and buying half a gram of a haze/chemical mixture for $30 bucks instead... sounds great doesn't it!!!!!! c'mon people. get real! oh, and btw, there will still be the same (or close to it) amount of people being arrested for marijuana even after it becomes legalized.. how you ask?? yeah, i thought so. DO SOME RESEARCH and BECAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR!
