Listing Style Guidelines

Please read these posting guidelines fully before trying anything fancy with the listing tool:

  • Title: This is the only field required to add a listing. Please keep your headline short and include relevant tags and topic words. Please don't use vague titles like "What is it?" or "Something cool...". Be clever please. Also note that we use standard newspaper headline style: capitalize only the first word in your headline, and any other proper nouns. For instance: "Everyone loves Bob Dobbs, except the entire state of Texas."

As much as you may want to do it, please keep HTML formatting out of your title.

  • Link: If you use the Auto Post BookMark this field takes care of itself. However, if you are copying-and-pasting please make sure you get it all. We check to make sure the link you post is actually responding.
  • Body: This field is very important. Not only do you enter text here, you can also enter HTML formatting tags as well, such as italics and bold and links. However, BE WARNED. Bad HTML messes up our RSS feed parsers and will get this feature booted if it is abused. You can use the automated Link and Image Upload tools to add elements to your post, so please keep the fancy HTML coding to a minimum.

  • Line breaks : Line breaks take care of themselves. You do not have to code paragraph or line breaks, just hit Enter once for a line break and twice for a paragraph break, like typing an e-mail. HOWEVER, you must remove unnecessary line breaks from your body text. Any line breaks you see in your
text will be in your final post,
    like this.
  • Blockquote: One HTML tag you do want to keep handy is the blockquote. Use a blockquote tag to encapsulate text quoted from other sources. Like so:
This is my blockquote. I even dumped it in an un-orderd list container. As long as I close my elements though I keep it tight.
  • Truncation: Listings with long text will be truncated on index pages and RSS feeds with links to continue on to full article page with the entire listing text.
  • Tags: This field is used mostly for your own benefit. Any topical keywords not included in the title or text of your listing should be added to this list. See the tags at the end of this description for a style guide. No punctuation, just single words and spaces

This will take you through the very basics of submitting your first post. Once you publish your listing you will be able to make changes, add links, and upload images with the editorial tools at the bottom of your listing 'permalink' page. If you are a new user, your post then goes into a pending queue for our editors to review; users with higher permission levels will see their posts on the home page immediately.
