SC moves to ban Salvia

South Carolina is the latest state to jump on the bandwagon to ban Salvia divinorum. Can't people just go for a "no sales to minors" rule anymore. Geez, what is this, a police state?

A hallucinogenic herb long used in tribal rituals would become illegal in South Carolina under a bill heading to the House floor--and that's no April Fool's joke.
The measure would make Salvia divinorum an illegal drug, in the same category as marijuana and peyote.
A House committee approved the bill Tuesday without debate.
South Carolina is among more than a dozen states where lawmakers are considering such measures.
The National Conference of State Legislatures says the plant has already been banned or restricted in at least eight states since 2005.
According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, the plant is usually either chewed or smoked, and its hallucinogenic effects can last about 30 minutes.

Why are they so bent out of shape over a freaking plant? They are such hypocrites. The FDA has approved all sorts of toxins that lace our food, yet there is no concern there. This war on drugs has been expensive and look where we are today. There will always be something else to take the spotlight. Now that Salvia is banned, it looks like this k2 incense stuff is the new thing they are trying to ban. [link]

Banned? If anything should be banned it should be alcohol (which I have nothing against). Drugs like these (like marijuana) are no where near as dangerous as alcohol concerning addiction, side-effects, and immediate danger from over intoxication. Control it, yes, but don't ban it. I know that when my mum tells me "No!" I just want to do it more.

I have children and I know that banning drugs does not keep them safer, it limits their safe and legal options. If parents are concerned they need to take care of their own kids, the police are not your nanny.

This all boils down to stupidity. Stupid people who use salvia for a "legal high" or as a party thing and stupid lawmakers for not understanding salvia and its purpose. Maybe those idiots should smoke some for once.
