Our new President a drug warrior?

Seen on Obama/Biden's transition website, as part of their rural agenda:

Improve Rural Quality Of Life

* Combat Methamphetamine: Methamphetamine use has increased 156 percent nationwide since 1996. Obama has a long record of fighting the meth epidemic. As President, he and Joe Biden will continue the fight to rid our communities of meth and offer support to help addicts heal.

Vice-President-elect Joe Biden IS the modern drug war. He introduced the CLEAN-UP ACT, the RAVE Act, High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas, among other things. Dear Pres. Obama, PLEASE DON'T LET JOE BIDEN ANYWHERE NEAR DRUG POLICY.

Thank you.

What I wrote to change.gov

Drug Policy:

We have far to many people in prison for non-violent drug offenses. We need to re-vamp the laws and begin an emphasis on treatment as opposed incarceration. Not only would the prison population decrease (a good thing, right?) but families would be less impacted with unfair, unjust and overly harsh punishments for what in the end is a behaviour issue, not a crime issue.

The amount of money thrown down the toilet with the DEA and other agencies is obscene.

We need to consider across the board decriminalization. Most of the drug laws are rooted in racism. One has but to read Henry Anslinger's comments from the 20's and 30's to understand this.

I know there was a huge wave of optimism about Obama (and hey, optimism is a good thing and in short supply in today's world), but the only candidate that I personally felt strongly about was Biden, he being an utter dweab. I lived in Delaware for a few years and developed quite a distaste for him. Palin would have been a better choice of running-mate.
