A rollicking interview with James Oroc, author of the Tryptamine Palace: 5-MeO-DMT and the Sonoran Desert Toad. In which experiential journalist Rak Razam delves into the secret history of DMT from Stephen Szara's experiments in the 1950s, William Burroughs (whom Oroc calls the "Godfather of DMT") and his radical break with English language caused by his DMT experiences ("language is a virus") through to the lower language bardos of the DMT realm where the golden code of meaning manifests. Oroc hypotheizes about the relationship between consciousness and language and the Zero Point Field and recognizing oneness within God. Is 5-MeO-DMT a tool to help us experience on the inside what quantum physics explains on the outside – non-local experiences of the "whiteout" or plenum of energy that lies within? Is 5-MeO-DMT specifically designed to be a sacred template or will it become the "next big thing", full circle from the 60s? Oroc and Razam trade maps of the 5-MeO-DMT space and attempt to tranlinguisticize the bardo spaces of the Godhead, and what lies beyond the beyond... An intimate discussion by two pre-eminent psychonauts on the fringes of innerspace for your enlightenment and elucidation... » more at: in-a-perfect-world.podomatic.com

Local news for me: today the Wisconsin State Patrol tried to stop an 18-wheeler which seemed to be driving erratically:
The driver sped up and continued on Highway 16, according to authorities.Supposed to be filled with energy drinks? Does that mean they're missing? The driver drank them all, then flipped out? Even more amusing, the bomb squad was called after a bomb-sniffing dog alerted to something in the truck. Maybe bomb dogs like energy drinks, though. Or maybe it was shipping the Czech energy drink "Semtex", which is named after a brand of plastic explosive long popular with terrorists. Also the article never says who "Mlsna" is, but it sounds like a Czech name to me... Disclaimer: I am being silly. » more at: www.channel3000.com

From Chen Cho Dorge on Reality Sandwich.
It has been well over 53 years since Ayahuasca's (also known as cipo, caapi, hoasca, vegetal, daime, oni, yaje, natem, mama, Shori, and aya affectionately by westerners) introduction to western entheogen enthusiasts, and in that time Ayahuasca has evolved. What began as a synergistic plant combo known as Ayahuasca among specific cultures of the Amazon rain forest, has evolved to become something never seen before in the history of entheogens. Ayahuasca has transformed and become something new, radically different from what it once was. The sacred medicine that has historically provided incredible transformations in those who drink it has itself transformed. It has become Changa. Changa is quite possibly one of the most amazing innovations in the technology of the sacred in our lifetime. The smoking blend is a combination of banisteriopsis caapi leaves (commonly known as the ayahuasca vine) and a natural extract of DMT... One of the plants that has been discovered to have tryptamines suitable for creating the ayahausca effect is of the Acacia species. Acacia species that have good sums of DMT alkaloids in them are endemic to Australia, which is where Ayahuasca has "mutated" so to speak, evolving into what has been called Changa today. Thanks to Jedi Mind Traveler for the heads up. » more at: www.realitysandwich.com

Jesse sends us LSD horror stories from the edge of insanity:
On April 18, officers responded to a residence to assist the Arcata Mad River Ambulance with a 31-year-old male subject who had just castrated himself. Medical personnel and officers were unable to locate the subject’s testicles. He later told officers that he flushed them down the toilet as he feared they contained "monsters." » more at: www.arcataeye.com

The new study also shows that this system can dampen the effects of alcohol, suggesting an avenue for the development of drugs to combat alcohol addiction. The research was published in the journal Neuropsychopharmacology on May 12. "This study will change a lot in the field," said Scripps Research Associate Professor Marisa Roberto, who was first author of the paper. "I'm confident it will have a big impact." "This is very new," said Paul Schweitzer, associate professor of the neurobiology of addiction at Scripps Research and corresponding author of the paper. "It is the first time a study has shown a direct cellular interaction between endocannabinoids and alcohol in the brain." The new research overturns the conclusions of a paper published by a European group in the Journal of Neuroscience in 2001. This paper claimed that endocannabinoid receptors, in particular the most common type called CB1, did not exist in the brain region called the central amygdala. "Yet CB1 receptors are very abundant," said Schweitzer. "They are almost everywhere in the brain and there are lots of them. The endocannabinoid system acts on appetite, mood, memory—and addiction. Addiction is why we started to study it in the central amygdala." The Scripps Research scientists began to suspect that the 2001 study, whose conclusions had been widely accepted in the field, might have missed the CB1 receptors in the brain's central amygdala. Indirect evidence from a number of subsequent studies -- including one by Scripps Research Associate Professor Loren "Larry" Parsons -- had suggested that the endocannabinoid system (and by implication its receptors) were indeed active in this brain region. » more at: esciencenews.com

Teafaerie throws down some Entheoporn in her latest on sex and psychedelics.
Sex and psychedelics have a lot in common. Both can be sacred, heart-opening, and life-affirming in some contexts, and both can also be cheap, dirty, and dangerous when they come from a sketchy source or you don’t put enough love into your practice. Both are boundary-defying experiences that challenge the distinctions that most of us draw between pleasure and pain, body and soul, and even self and other. I’ve always said that to be allowed to share in or observe a psychedelic session is an honor no less profound than that accorded to a lover. This is true even if, as is often the case with lovers, the atmosphere of the experiment is predominantly fun and casual. » more at: www.erowid.org
