Music Review: Androcell - Emotivision

Gather round the sonic temple, galactic dub children, Androcell is about to take you on a journey.

A mainstay on the underground dub and chill-out circuit, Androcell (AKA Tyler Smith, AKA Quasga) consistently turns out great live shows and great psy-chill albums. Emotivision is a release from 2004 and has been sitting in my collection for a few years now, but I still pull it out late at night when I want to get into that timeless mystical state I refer to as "space dub".

Composed for the galactic mind and consisting of the small noises of life and biological growth, Androcell's music seethes and pulses towards a universal vision of interconnectedness. Throwing around heavy song titles like "Soul in the Machine" and "Rapture of the Deep", Androcell is the perfect soundtrack for exploring mystic spaces on both the cosmic or cellular level.

The track included below, "Hash Bazaar", is typical of your average Androcell song. It takes you on a journey of the mind through exotic and wondrous spaces, dropping you lightly into grooves and beats that will keep you well chilled and deep in thought for the duration.

Androcell has a new album out, 2006's Efflorescence, And judging from the samples on the Androcell website they are up to the quality I would expect from this master dub-tician. However, the CDs are hard to find, but worth finding, so hunt for them. Not only are these albums lush with sound, they come with some of the best cover and liner art I've seen in a long time, tastefully blending symbols from drug culture and mysticism in a high-graphic way that does not seem hokey. And when you listen to the music you'll understand that enhanced consciousness is what this project is all about.

Check the website for live dates, and be sure to catch Androcell if you can.
