I can't believe that Salvia is illegal.
I remember my mother cutting the leaves up and putting it in Cuban coffee when I was a child and had sever laryngitis. It went away right away.
Salvia leaves are used on your forehead when you have a headache.
It is a healing herb.
It has been used for years as such.
How could this become illegal?

How about making all prescription drugs illegal since youths use them in parties along with alcohol?

There is no logic in making a medicinal herb illegal because someone used it for evil. You might as well make everything illegal.

This is ridiculous! Banning to grow natural plants is going against nature. I can understand if selling without paying taxes should be illegal but some people need these plants.

To those that are criticizing the individuals challenging Florida's laws, please realize that their poor grammar and language skills may be a product of Florida public schooling. As a Florida Public School student I've fought to keep certain drugs out of kids reach, however I've also seen firsthand how terrible the education system is. The majority of teachers are only teaching to the fcat and disregard any information that won't appear on the standardized test. Perhaps before you judge the students you should judge the system that forms the mold.

I notice that a lot of you who say Fla law sucks or who advocate the legality of drugs like pot and salvia can hardly spell the even the most simple words.
Makes old farts like me wonder what kind of a generation that's coming up will be. Can you imagine stoned congressmen and senators making our laws, spaced out cops coming to your rescue or calling for help when your house is on fire and all the firefighters are stoned or high?
I watched a brilliant grandson go down the tubes from drug abuse. At 21 he is no longer functional and relies on "a little help from his friends". I don't think he'll live to see his 30th birthday. i've tried salvia and honestly it was an experience. not necessarily good nor bad. i enjoyed it in that i shared that experience with my friends. should it have been made illegal . personally no. this is'nt something that will be a recreational drug. those that use , i am sure that it wasnt something which was habitually used. florida needs to relax on making herbs like salvia illegal and loosen up

I live in Florida and I love it i have been here my whole life and cant imagine living anywhere else, the history and environments are so diverse and rich. But unfortunately as someone else has already stated, the laws in Florida continue to get worse and worse. Weather its stricter legislation on marijuana, banning salvia, or crazy and fear driven animals laws managing our biological resources. Floridas population, history and government is outta control as we move from one of Americas richest frontiers into a saturated and polluted tourist/police state... man I miss old Florida

Unlike real drugs, it sucks and isn't fun. I seriously doubt anyone is going to miss it, it's a novelty and a gimmick. The real problem is research chemicals chemists are cooking up in labs that are much, much stronger than any of the old drugs the hippies used. If you would legalize marijuana most people wouldn't resort to this kind of crap to get high. Salvia sucks, the only thing funny about it is how bad it sucks and how it is anything but a good drug. Anyone who would try it again really must be desperate to mess their brain up.

I hate Florida it's a tourist state.

I did write him, twice, before he signed the bill. Florida is behind the times. People are actually leaving the state for many reasons, among them, the 1950ish thinking. It is not a progressive state as far as freedom of choice and respect for adult individuals. The Governor had a legislature give him a bill to sign that was overwhelmingly in favor of making felons out of mature adults who know to treat Salvia with proper respect and use it in the proper context. This is the wrong bill. Salvia should be restricted in its sale to anybody under a certain age, but the right for a mature adult to use whatever they want is an individual, mature (hopefully) choice and we all have that basic, human freedom. It is not the government's place to dictate how we walk and talk. If somebody benefits from a substance such as Salvia, or whatever...it is their right as long as they don't endanger anybody else. The Governor almost had to sign that bill as a political person. The State of Florida's legislature, however, over-reacted with this bill. It takes away our right to legally, responsibly, use a product that has many benefits, when used in the proper context. I am tired of being treated like I am a child. I am a mature adult who thinks our entire way of thinking in this nation needs to change. I do not feel as free as I should feel because I am not as free as I deserve to be.

I think we should contact this guy's office or at least write letters to show how much we disagree with his decision to make Salvia illegal.

There are lots of other legal substances. Salvia is the best though. I feel so much better since I discovered it. It is better than anything. It has given me insight and allowed me to solve many lingering issues that had lingered for years. We are not a free people. This happened because some stupid kids screwed up and acted irresponsibly. People got scared. Rather than make it illegal, it should have been regulated. I am all for that, because it could be dangerous in some stupid kids' hands. But hell, pot should be regulated too, along with many other drugs. Instead, what, throw everybody in jail if they don't like alcohol? Alcohol is a nasty drug. It does nasty things to our bodies. So we have guns and alcohol. You can take your gun to work now in Florida, as long as it stays in the car. How much sense does this make? We have got to get the people in office, out of office.

I suppose making any drug illegal sucks, since it's a sign of more of the same, but honestly I just don't see the point of salvia. I don't find it terrifying or awful in any way, I just don't see a point to smoking it. After every trip my only thought is "well, that was weird." Making a liquid extract to quid might be more interesting, but being under the influence of a drug that completely destroys reality for more than a couple of minutes seems like a very bad idea.
