Jimson Weed and Salvia exposed

Here's another example of the summertime legal highs echo chamber hitting the small town presses, this time from the Morehead News in Kentucky. The title of this piece is 'Deadly drugs exposed'.

If parents didn’t have enough to worry about with the ongoing pain pill epidemic, two new drugs have hit the streets and are causing serious hallucinations and even deaths.

Teens don’t have to sneak into a medicine cabinet or find the nearest drug dealer, when two potentially deadly highs from plants are easy to acquire– and one could be growing right out the back door.

The Carter County Drug Task Force had its regular meeting recently while handing out literature concerning the use of Salvia Divinorum and Jimson Weed.

“We certainly don’t need anything else out on the streets for our teens and anyone for that matter to get hold of,” said Pastor Jim Varney, faith-based voice for ENOUGH and active member of the drug task force. “Parents need to be aware of these drugs and children need to know the side effects and what damage can be done to their bodies by using them.”

In fact, both the Jimson Weed and Salvia plants are the emerging new trends among teenagers and adults from the age of 18 to 25.

This article is actually very long and detailed with decent information. One of the better researched articles on Jimson Weed and Salvia to come out in a while.

Ok "Reasonable adult" is an idiot if he/she doesn't think cocaine kills people, i personally know people who have died on it, and if they think they should take sh!t just because someone else did it he/she can be my guest. do some research OF YOUR OWN, before taking jimson weed and you will find centuries worth of info on how it can kill you of not used properly. im all for experimentation but this sort of blatant ignorance is infuriating.

I am personally all for legalization of cannabis and the democratic right of all to get high without going to jail .. however Jimson weed , datura , devil apple , whatever you want to call it is at very best a very scary , unpleasent trip or at worst a trip to morgue .From personal experience I became acutely dehydrated , my pupils nearly dilated to explosion , and I did NOT feel high at all , just very weird .
This stuff believe me is very dangerous , there were two deaths I know of in 70 s look at www.errowid.org and see what they have to say 'bout this crap .. DON'T GO THERE !!!

Im interested in slavia, not one person to my knowlage has overdosed on it and it's hallucination are some of the strongest. The weird part is, it's not an indole psychedelic, it acts on viva recepters as opposed to psilocybin and serotonin (5-HT-2A/2C 5-HT-1A).

Salvia can convince someone to commit suicide, but they are just jumping to conclusions and trying to scare people. If used in a proper spiritual setting where the person can BE CONTROLLED if needed, suicide will not happen.

This may not apply to salvia, but Jimson Weed (which is just the colloquial name for Datura) can actually be very dangerous if dosed incorrectly. The amount of actives varies a lot from plant to plant, making it very hard to get the dosage right, --this is in addition to the fact that the psychoactive dosage is quite close to the fatal dosage anyway. So over all it's quite a gamble, and even at cautiously measured out "safe" (BIG quotes here) psychoactive doses, the effects very much feel like being poisoned, like a painful body high in a dream state, during which you do (often insane) things you mostly have no recollection of afterwards. Oh and you get blurry sight from it. The one time I did it wasnt fun at all, the loss of clear eyesight persisted for days after the trip was over. On day 3 I was finally able to read a newspaper again.
Again, if you get the dose wrong you can die, either by accident/stumbling/mistaking a passing car for an elephant you want to ride on etc., or by the erroneously dosed hyoscyamine and scopolamine poisoning your organs. There have been reports of fatal and near fatal self mutilation. Some guy in Germany actually cut his penis and his tongue off and handed them to his mother while completely out of it on Datura tea.

I usually hate these scare stories about drugs, but this one should really be heeded as a cautionary tale for all curious about Datura.
My advice: It's not worth it, crappy painful displeasurable high and way too risky in many ways.

Crawford Tillinghast: Usually there are 7 or more blatent factual errors apparent within the first 30 seconds of reading most salvia articles. ;^)

Exactly which article does this refer to? I skimmed over the salvia section at a good clip and found at least 5 blatant factual errors without even looking hard.

This "potentially deadly highs" bullsh!t is ridiculous-- it is used so widely, it is meaningless. If "cocaine kills," people wouldn't be so psyched to it!
