Tony Blair thinks of Prince Charles & mushrooms

From an interview with Tony Blair.

Word Associations: Prince Charles

Tony Blair: Mushrooms.

What?

Prince Charles, actually, the one thing he is absolutely expert of, is everything to do with wildlife and the countryside … And you know, every year, you as prime minister spend a weekend with the royal family [in Balmoral], and one day when I was up, Prince Charles and I, we had gotten to talking about wildlife and the countryside and what plants are used in what way and so forth and he then explained to me -- he actually took out and showed me -- the mushrooms you could eat and the mushrooms that you couldn't.

Future Hero?

Adam,
what monarchy stands for and what the British Royals' inherited wealth still stands for today is imperialism, killing and exploitation of vast amounts of people all over the world (including the Brits). I am puzzled by how you can be fascinated by what they represent. I despise monarchy in all its expressions and, sadly, I think the fact that to this day it is still kept alive in a form of suspended animation speaks volumes about people's subconscious fascination with authority and their romanticized ruler fetish. It's a form self-demeaning mass neurosis, if you will.

There's nothing I see wrong with having a Royal family. At one point, yes, they ruled quite legitimately over England and the Commonwealth. However their descendants choose to live, they will remain symbols of modern England. Given they have each inherited vast sums of money and a castle to live in, they choose to live the high life. :-)

My point is that they never decided to be celebrities, or even members of the Royal family, other people are responsible for that and continue to be. I guess you sort of said that too after all.

They basically went from being the owners to being the pets in the household that is British society, and I personally admire each of them for being more or less cool with that. Whatever these people could have been in a world like the past just makes them so much more fascinating today, no matter what they do. Even the ones who are just like [pronoun] are fascinating because of that. Even you yourself needed someone to love hating at this moment in time. :-)

Why are monarchs even still relevant to this day? They serve no function other than to fill tabloids. Everytime somebody writes about (or reads/clicks a story on) them you are confirming and acknowledging their status and help feed their snobbish parasitic ego.
Heeelllloooooo, wake up call to UK!! The middle ages have ended!!!
