DEA issues ban on JWH-018 and other synthetic cannabinoids

NOV 24 - WASHINGTON, D.C. - The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is using its emergency scheduling authority to temporarily control five chemicals (JWH-018, JWH-073, JWH-200, CP-47,497, and cannabicyclohexanol) used to make "fake pot" products. Except as authorized by law, this action will make possessing and selling these chemicals or the products that contain them illegal in the U.S. for at least one year while the DEA and the United States Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) further study whether these chemicals and products should be permanently controlled.

You guys suck. This stuff was not even dangerous until you fucking idoits banned the original chemicals.. Wich will only lead people to develop and make chemicals that are harmful. Thoughs people look like meth/crack heads. NO WOUNDER THERE FREAKING OUT. If your so god damn worried about fake ass weed, legalize the real stuff. I've been smoking for 4 years, I'm 16 and my I.Q is 185. Mabey, you guys should pull your head out you asses and publish the truth for once. The DEA is a fluke and if you would only tax MEDICAL Marijuana, our economy would flourish and we'de be out of debt with china in maybe 50 years. At this rate, anarchy is inevitable... Toodles.

I've been smoking weed for over 30 years & never had any health problems at all, never had a dui because i was high. However i have had a few dui arrests from drinking. Now i can't smoke weed because i'm on fucking probation & i was extremely happy when my friend turned me on to JWH-018 which was sold in my area in the product called wicked-xxx.Finally something that got me high that the fucking government couldn't bust me for but like always those WORTHLESS FUCKS ruined that!!!Now i'm back on the internet searching for a replacement & taking my chances with trying unknown products that say they do the same thing as JWH-018.I just wish we could for 1 time in my life have the freedom that they keep telling everybody we have.I'TS MY FUCKING LIFE & I'M SICK OF ALL THE IGNORANT FUCKERS CONTROLLING MY HABITS,FOR FUCK SAKES OUR STUPID WORTHLESS PRESIDENT EVEN SMOKED WEED!!!!!
that one guy. : 2011-04-02 13:28:11
Man, I see this happen and I wonder why. I have smoked this stuff, also weed, and its bogus. Its not like a xanax or something crazy like prescription medicine. To make it a class 1? WtF? why? what did it do that was so bad? Also, they never test these people who they claim smoked jwh when they freak out. Plus, they never ask what type of method. Like the pure stuff the guy was talking about. I think a gram of that stuff is enough to make a couple ounces out of. So yah, when you smoke it like that, you are an idiot if anything bad happens.

What about salvia? I tried some of that and I felt like my soul was flipping. It only lasted a couple minutes but once I was able to overcome my fears and the intense feelings, I felt triumphant. Also I never wanted to touch that again and I never have. But I just don't get it cause if you have enough money for health insurance and the copay and all that you can get whatever the hell you want.

I really don't get it, neither does anyone who can produce a coherent thought.

Now all this is doing is making the decent people who do what they want as long as it doesnt hurt anyone afraid of both the criminals (bad guys) AND the cops. We gotta run from everyone now. WtF IS THIS?

Seriously, anyone who says this stuff is dangerous is making a decision for you. That is a form of mind control. Some people can handle it so its obviously NOT dangerous.

This is the same level of stupidity as that idiot who spilled her coffee on herself at mcdonalds and sued because it was hot. I just can't imagine the mindset.

I thought that the decision makers were getting smarter and evolving recognising this as a health issue, not a public safety issue. If these drugs make you so crazy how come out of ALL of the people who apparently have tried or done it, you never see any of them freaking out and running around the street????? Only thing that does that is crack and mental issues. So whats the danger in this other stuff? Plus, those guys that "freak out" on this stuff look like heavy drug users, lower class morons, or just idiots.

Again... WTF?!?!?

Did this also effect the pills like doves ultra and such? I have noticed a difference in them for some reason. Any input is appreciated as I can't get a straight answer from suppliers.

vote with the tea party eh? Yeah. Im assuming that was sarcasm. tea baggers are crazy, evil, or incredibly stupid. period. theyre easy to profile, i bet 90% of them have more than 1 gun in the house, and 1 is a handgun. Unfortunately I have a feeling that something sinister is beating the less government drum, to undermine the agencies like the epa, osha, fda, and thereby scrape another 1% more profit off the top by polluting more, being less careful and poisoning people with toxic food. OOOOH The GOVERNMENT!!!! AHHH. its not the boogey man, its people, man. I worry about the private interests who remain rich and powerful and globally influential for decades, not 8 yrs. And its those folks who want to make people into sheep.

As far as jwh goes, well, its synthetic pot alright and Ive used it. it works. So, they want to ban it. Of course.

Now, the issue is not why they are banning jwh 18. They ban it because pot is banned. The issue is simple to understand; why is pot illegal? because

And to those who will say im a "braindeader" well, to you bill

Marijuana has been used for a long time all over the world. There is therefore a slight chance that none of your ancestors used any form of weed in all their lives. Im not going to go on about how wonderful marijuana is like the hippies did about acid. The fact is people like to get high. Alcohol is indeed harmful, drunk drivers kill people regularly. Mothers drink while pregnant and harm children tremendously. What birth defects are caused by marijuana bill? Im a... braindeader, yet it is you, and the others in the "majority" whos logic is faulty.
What medical usage does tobacco have, bill?
Yet the Majority, in all of their infallible wisdom, has deemed tobacco, and alcohol acceptible and marijuana is demonized, and thrown in the same bin as crack smack and crank.

Try reading people. TODAY is the earliest a ban can do into effect. The 30 day feedback period ended Christmas Eve.
Until the Final Rule is published in the register chill out and grow a brain.

NOV 24 -- WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is using its emergency scheduling authority to temporarily control five chemicals (JWH-018, JWH-073, JWH-200, CP-47,497, and cannabicyclohexanol) used to make “fake pot” products. Except as authorized by law, this action will make possessing and selling these chemicals or the products that contain them illegal in the U.S. for at least one year while the DEA and the United States Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) further study whether these chemicals and products should be permanently controlled.

A Notice of Intent to Temporarily Control was published in the Federal Register today to alert the public to this action. After no fewer than 30 days, DEA will publish in the Federal Register a Final Rule to Temporarily Control these chemicals for at least 12 months with the possibility of a six-month extension. They will be designated as Schedule I substances, the most restrictive category, which is reserved for unsafe, highly abused substances with no medical usage.

IF MARYJANE WAS LEGAL OUR ECONOMY WOULD SOAR TO THE TOP , THERE ARE A WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE THAT I KNOW THAT SMOKE JWH , AS WELL AS MY SELF WOULD RATHER SMOKE GREEN AS OPPOSSED TO JWH. THE BORDER WOULD GET CLEANED UP AND THERE WOULD BE LESS VIOLENCE. NOW THAT THIS WILL BE ON THE BLACK MARKET I WORRY FOR THE CHILDREN THAT GET THERE HANDS ON IT BECAUSE NO ID WILL BE REQUIRED. OUR DEA IS LETTING OUR CHILDREN HAVE ACCESS TO IT, JUST AS WELL AS EVERY OTHER CONTROL SUBSTANCE. I THINK WE LIVE UNDER THE CONTROL OF A CRUEL AND SICK GOVERMENT. IT IS SAD THAT WE ARE ENABLING THESE IDIOTS TO CONTINUE RULE US LIKE A BUNCH OF SLAVES AND SETTIN OUR FUTURE UP FOR A DEFINENT FAILURE. WHAT ARE WE THINKING? TIME TO LEGALIZE IS NOW!!!!!

If they just legalized weed the market for the synthetics would disappear overnite.. I personally didnt like jwh-18. Just a bad time compared to a good old bowl of some nice skunky bud. Legalize it and outlaw employers from testing for it and JWH will be a thing of the past. Fucking DEA.. making laws without the consent of the people. Last I heard, The house and senate passed laws, not some overzealous govt agency. Must be nice to pass your own laws to keep the money flow coming in. Our country is in trouble..

"I would have to disagree about the acetone not having any side effects. Acetone is a petro based solvent."

That's pushing the definition of "petroleum-based" a little, don't you think?

Acetone is an organic compound found fairly widely. It is commonly prepared from propylene, which is commonly prepared from commercial hydrocarbons -- but then again, many things are prepared from propylene, including some fairly common food additives. It is unlikely that industrial acetone would be prepared with the same "care" that food and pharmaceutical additives are made... but still, characterizing it as "petro based" doesn't really mean anything, considering how many commonly consumed materials are also "petro based."

If you're going to question its safety, it would be better to speak more to how and where it is manufactured, as oppose to "where it comes from."

Acetone is a naturally occurring molecule, found in many living systems. In fact, it is found endogenously in the human body, as part of normal metabolism. There are even studies going on now with diets designed to increase the quantity of ketones found in the body to combat certain physical aliments.

And of course, it is highly volatile, so little acetone (if any) would be expected to be found in a material, provided that nothing stupid was done.

USP and pharmaceutical-grade acetone is used widely in the preparation of materials intended for human consumption. Really, any risk associated with it comes from contaminants, but (as I said above) this is a separate issue from it being a "petro-based chemical."

quanah. : 2010-12-14 01:59:47
I would have to disagree about the acetone not having any side effects. Acetone is a petro based solvent. The synthetic molecule is dissolved in acetone and then the acetone is added to plant material. The plant material is then set out to dry or whatever method is used to allow the acetone to evaporate.

In the event that all the acetone has not evaporated or if the acetone leaves behind any petroleum residue on the plant material then this could be harmful if smoked. It could create harmful fumes.... However there is a way to infuse the plant material with the synthetic compounds without using any harmful petroleum products whatsoever.

From the intent to schedule:

"The American public looks to the DEA to protect its children and communities from those who would exploit them for their own gain."

Huh? Really?

Can I see a show of hands from those who would characterize the DEA as a group who would exploit our communities for their own gain?

That's what I thought.

I don't see how the DEA can protect us from the DEA. Seems like a bit of a systemic conflict of interest.

"The only reason that the JWH series and other synthetic cannabinoids weren't classified under the Analog act is the simple fact that if something is labeled and sold as "Not For Human Consumption" - it cannot be prosecuted under the analog:act. That's why you see those labels on every single "Herbal Incense" product you see on the shelves."

This is simply not true.

In US v. Forbes (1992), US district court established the precedent that, in addition to an intent for consumption, a substance must be structurally similar to a controlled substance and have a similar effect (or be represented as such) to be considered an analog. Before that, it was asserted that something could be an analog if it had the effects of an illegal drug (or was presented as such) or had a similar structure. In other words, they established the requirement that the chemical structures need to be related.

The chemical structure of the current synthetic cannabinoids is not substantially similar to real cannabinoids, so it is unlikely that they could be prosecuted via the analog laws, even if they were sold explicitly for the purpose of human consumption.

Pandemonium. : 2010-11-29 15:39:49
@CJ - The only reason that the JWH series and other synthetic cannabinoids weren't classified under the Analog act is the simple fact that if something is labeled and sold as "Not For Human Consumption" - it cannot be prosecuted under the analog act. That's why you see those labels on every single "Herbal Incense" product you see on the shelves.

Here's the thing, people...don't get too terribly bent out of shape and upset about them banning a certain few synths...Doesn't anybody remember the 2C series? 2CI and 2CE are still legal because the government got tired of chasing their tails. The same thing is going to happen with this. They'll outlaw as many as they can, but when they do, 6 more will pop up in their place.

Oh, and Acetone has nothing to do with people getting sick. People get sick from JWH 018 and 73, etc because they don't know jack about it and go out and buy the pure chems thinking that when they cover the top of the bowl of "Herbal Incense" with it that it's just like putting hash on weed...right, in a way...wrong in the fact that the majority of the synthetic cannabinoids that are out there are 30+ times as strong as THC, and people don't take that into consideration. You can have a panic attack from smoking too much reefer too, I've seen it happen.

Ive smoked spice for a year damn near everyday and haven't been injured. If u buy name brands such as black mamba u will be fine people only go to the hospital when it's ghetto no named shit made out of acetone or if the person can't handle it and they start sketching out. If u buy the right kind of spice it's better than weed and the government should just legalize weed and regulate it so they can make money and we can get high then everyone will be happy. No ones ever died of weed poisoning unlike alcohol.. It's ridiculous that weed is a class 1 drug and cocaine is a class 2 because wayyy more people die of coke. Plus weed deffinately has medicinal uses.

Synthetic cannabinoids are potentially dangerous. The endocannabinoid system is a complicated body regulator and generally shouldn't be messed with. For example, pharmaceutical CB1 blockers for overeating caused severe depression in trials.

Marijuana, of course is completely safe, as shown by its widespread use without problematic side effects. If weed was legal, dangerous synthetics wouldn't show up on the market. Once again the DEA treats the symptoms not the cause, making things worse (cost + arrests) for everybody.

Replacement/other JWH compounds could and probably will be illegal as well because of the Federal Analogue Act.
So once one JWH becomes illegal, i.e. 1 year from Dec. 24th so will all other JWH compounds.
